Egg Drop!

Friday, January 27th, 2017

We have had an amazing week in The Kestrels. It all began with our book of the week – Egg Drop by Mini Grey.  We then went on to our challenge – to design and make a flying machine for a real egg!  We looked at lots of designs and then worked in teams to create a flying machine.  We wrote instructions on how to make one, then we tested them out of the staff room window! All but two eggs survived!

The Kestrels trip to Cotswold Airport

Friday, January 20th, 2017

The Kestrels had a wonderful trip to the Cotswold Airport on Wednesday.  We visited the control tower and saw planes and a helicopter land.  We had a chance to climb up into the cab of the special airport fire engine and Christie set the siren off!  After  snack in the airport cafe, we visited Maria Young’s Dad’s hanger and he told us all about his planes and microlights.  We found out that you have to be 14 to learn how to fly – lots of the Kestrels want to be pilots!

Yes, it snowed! So we went out and played in it and then we collectively wrote this poem:

The Kestrels in the Snow

Freezing feet and fingers

Joyful children

Shivering snow

Soggy socks and gloves

Frozen snowballs

Cracking ice

Cold clothes

Very very excited

Ice frozen stream

Snow monsters

Can it fly?

Welcome back and Happy New Year!  This term the Kestrels are learning all about flight.  Please check the website for all the exciting learning we will do.  We started with the story of Icarus and Daedalus.  The children loved the Greek myth and did some amazing writing!
