Meeting Historians

The Kestrels continued to investigate the past by asking questions to historians from ‘The Museum in the Park’ in Stroud. They were able to find out more about the past including what it was like for people to work in the mills.

The Kestrels have been learning to handle evidence and use artefacts to find out about the past. They have been able to borrow a range of artefacts from ‘The Museum in the Park’ and enjoyed investigating them to find out about local industry.

Spinning thread with Mrs Oliver

The Kestrels were very lucky to have Mrs Oliver explain the processes involved in turning wool into cloth. They have been learning to investigate the history of Avening and the importance of the wool industry. In art, they are learning about textiles and enjoyed finding out about how natural dyes can be used to change the colour of the thread. They were surprised that the colour of the plant used to dye the thread did not always result in the same colour of the finished thread.
