STEM Workshop

Monday, November 23rd, 2020

The Kestrels really enjoyed their morning learning how to write algorithms for the robots they had built. First, they made a chicken to guard the coop who was able to scare away any fox that came too close. After break, they built a cat and programmed it to move around a cone. Everyone was very enthusiastic and produced some excellent work. There is a full gallery of pictures on the school website.

Remembrance Day

Wednesday, November 11th, 2020

The whole school came together to mark Remembrance Day once again this year. It began with a thought provoking virtual assembly where we found out about the lives of some of the people from Avening who did not return. Many of the children recognised the streets and places where they lived and worked. Everyone then met at the Millennium Cross in their bubbles to observe the silence and the Owls read out the names of the fallen. The school council then took turns to place a cross for each of the people who died in the churchyard. Everyone was moved by the human stories of the people involved and showed great respect for their memory.
