Our topic this term is ‘All About Avening’. In geography, we have been learning to use aerial images to recognise landmarks and basic physical features. We then used these skills to find our way around the local area and identify the land use.

If you look closely, I have teeth as sharp as swords.

I live in the Americas in forests.

For my food, I love to eat frogs, deer and crocodiles.

What am I?

Year 1

May 26th, 2020

If your grown up has decided you can come back to school, you will find things are going to be a little bit different. The classroom has changed so that everyone will have their own desk. You will also have your own pencil case with your pencil, rubber, glue, scissors, ruler, whiteboard rubber and whiteboard pen in. All of your bookbags and coats will be kept in the classroom and you will use the Key Stage 2 toilets. At playtime and lunchtime, you will stay with the other children in your year group and eat and play together.

Although some things will be different, lots of things will be exactly the same. Mr Wilkinson, Mrs Wilkinson and Miss Birch will be teaching you and we will be learning in the same lessons. We are all really looking forward to seeing you again.

Hopefully, if we collaborate, respect each other and all follow the new rules carefully, we will help keep everyone safe while enjoying our learning.

The Kestrels have been busy this week with their new pack of learning ideas. Sam has been finding out about hedgehogs and created his own out of natural materials. People have been looking at animals on their walks and making animal balloons. Other Kestrels have made paper birds and completed their Venn diagram to sort fish and whales. Jojo has really enjoyed reading ‘Frankie’s Magic Football’ series of books and written a review. He hopes it will help you decide whether you would like to read the books as well. Freddie has been inspired by The Very Hungry Caterpillar and has written his own version of the story for you all to enjoy.

The Very Hungry Cub

In the light of the moon lay a little cub in the tree. On Sunday morning out of the tree, came down a very hungry cub. He started to look for some food.

On Monday he ate 1 leaf, but was still hungry. On Tuesday he ate 2 berries, but he was still hungry. On Wednesday he ate 3 blueberries, but was still hungry. On Thursday he ate 4 spiders, but was still hungry. On Friday he ate 5 pots of honey, but was still hungry. On Saturday he ate: 1 bug, 1 sausage, 1 watermelon, 1 lollipop, 1 slice of salami, 1 slice of cheese, 1 dandelion, 1 pot of seeds, 1 egg and a bag full of rubbish. That night he had a stomach ache.

The very hungry cub ate through 1 green leaf. He started to feel better. Now the cub was no longer small. He was a big and fat cub. He built a small house called a den around himself. He stayed inside for more than for 9 months. Then he made a small hole in the den, pushed his way out and……………A grizzly bear appeared.
